On 7 and 8 November, the Navantia Seanergies shipyard in Puerto Real (Cádiz) hosted a hundred experts in offshore wind energy on a technical visit on the occasion of the 3rd Offshore Wind Energy Congress. Organised by the Spanish Wind Energy Association (AEE), this event was held at the Palacio de Congresos de Cádiz.

Within the framework of the Offshore Wind Energy Congress, Javier Herrador, director of Navantia Seanergies, participated in the round table ‘Industrial capacity. Rhythms and consolidation. The chicken or the egg regarding the maturity of the markets’.

During his intervention, Javier Herrador pointed out that ‘currently only 0.4% of installed wind energy is floating’. However, there are expectations that by 2030 floating technology will reach 3% of total offshore wind power.

‘Therefore, it is important that the projects submitted to the next auctions of the national plan are robust and credible. If this is achieved, Spain and its industrial ecosystem will be leaders in floating wind very soon,’ said the director of Navantia Seanergies.

On the traction of the value chain, Javier Herrador explained that ‘in the 10 years that Navantia Seanergies has been working on offshore wind projects, 486 companies from 16 countries have been contracted for these projects, 85% of them Spanish, representing almost €1.2 billion in orders’. This commitment has enabled many of these companies, especially Spanish ones, to gain references and become regular suppliers inoffshore wind.

‘A market with an annual growth of 14%, in which Navantia Seanergies has already secured contractual commitments with customers until 2032, which allows us to continue opening our strategies to the collaborating industry, to strengthen the supply chain and take advantage of the opportunities that this market brings’, concluded Javier Herrador.
